In July last year I had the opportunity to attend The Haven Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. Not only did I get to meet all of my DIY friends in real life but I learned a ton about being a DIY/design content creator. One of the other perks of attending is that The Home Depot is a sponsor of the conference. Each year they host their Orange Tank competition. With different tiers of categories, hopeful DIYers pitch their projects and cross their fingers they win a grant between $1,000-$5,000.
Since this was the 10th year The Home Depot sponsored they added a special $10,000 category. The catch being that the project you pitch had to be for a charitable cause and not done in your own home. Right away I knew I wanted to enter to help make someone’s life better. My mind immediately went to a local family who’s 13 year old daughter has brain cancer. I created my pitch video to redo The Parker Family’s kitchen, it was voted on and on the last day of the conference I found out that I WON!
I am SO excited to get started next week completing this renovation for this very deserving family who have now become close friends of mine.
My vision is light, bright and airy! To save on costs we will be keeping the current cabinet boxes and replacing the doors. Another big DIY part of this project will be adding a built in banquette seat to maximize the space in their breakfast nook. Some new appliances, backsplash, and countertops will round out the new space. I have already utilized The Home Depot project planner and app to plan out the project’s materials! Curbside pickup is always my go to for bigger items as well!
I have some wonderful friends coming in to help me and I am SO excited to get started! It’s going to be so much fun! Make sure you’re following along and don’t miss a thing! Be sure to check out my blog post on The Home Depot’s website for the final reveal!
